We Are Mediterranee
At the intersection of art, science, and exploration
It all begins in the Mediterranean, a life-giving sea and cradle of civilizations, now threatened by human activities. Faced withthe urgent need to preserve this fragile and exceptionally richecosystem, We Are Méditerranée was born out of a collective effort led by explorers, scientists, artists, and committed citizens.
Founded by Greg Lecoeur, a nature photographer and ocean advocate, the initiative stems from a simple yet powerful desire: to tell the story of the Mediterranean in a new way, to inspire love for it so that we can better protect it. From the surface to its deepest depths, we wanted to give a voice to marine biodiversity, highlighting both its hidden beauty and its invisible threats.
It all started with a boat, a camera, a microscope, and a shared desire to share our story. Today, We Are Méditerranée brings together a community of passionate individuals, united by a common commitment: to inspire wonder, to raise awareness, and to take action.
A sense of wonder is the first step toward protecting nature.

Through imagery, storytelling, science, and education, our mission is to reveal the wonders and vulnerabilities of the marine world, to advance knowledge and foster a connection between people and the ocean.
We want:
- Raise awareness among the general public and decision-makers.
- Document marine ecosystems and the threats they face.
- Engage younger generations in fostering a new relationship with the natural world.
- Connecting worlds: scientific, artistic, institutional, and civic.
We don’t just talk about the Mediterranean. We live there, we experience it, and we defend it.
