OUR HISTORY

Originally from the Mediterranean, Greg Lecoeur has been exploring the Mare Nostrum since his childhood. Although he has dipped his fins in all the oceans of the world, and despite the too many preconceived ideas about this inland sea, he likes to return to his first love, as “the big blue” conceals so many treasures.

With the “WE ARE MÉDITERRANÉE” project, he wishes to revisit and enhance an unsuspected marine biodiversity. Through a series of expeditions carried out in collaboration with scientists, the association aims at giving a clear picture of this exceptional but fragile marine heritage. As elsewhere, it is subject to too many anthropogenic and climatic pressures and it is urgent to preserve it.

A PHOTOGRAPHIC VISION

Photography is a universal and timeless means of expression. It allows stories to be told using a common language, emotions to be felt and a sensitive message to be shared.

We Are Méditerranée relies on the work of naturalist photographer Greg Lecoeur to unveil the many mysteries of Mare Nostrum during unprecedented expeditions and share the duty to act daily to protect it.

A SCIENTIFIC DIMENSION

In order to contribute to a better knowledge and understanding of marine ecosystems, several scientific missions will be carried out by marine specialists during our expeditions.

The combination of these two major disciplines, art and science, is a powerful way to enhance the biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea and to promote it.

AN EDUCATIONAL WAVE

Alerting the public about the importance of acting together today, by rethinking our consumption patterns to preserve biodiversity, which is vital to human life.

Launching a big blue wave from the south of France and beyond the borders, to promote the Pelagos sanctuary.
